Attending Seminars
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Tim and I have attended quite a few seminars since our journey began on the path of self discovery. Seminars give you an opportunity to continue learning and growing, then as your level of awareness increases you gain a greater understanding of yourself.

You come away from a seminar on a high and it keeps you focusing on what you want; they also give you a chance to network with like minded people and widen your support base. Some of the closest people in our lives are people that we have met at seminars.

You have probably heard the saying “everything in the universe is designed to grow”. Therefore, if it is not growing it is stagnate and dying. Humans are exactly the same, which is why it is so important to continue on the journey of growth and self discovery.

You also never know what celebrities you might meet at seminars, check out the picture below of me and a well known woman, and also a television celebrity.

We might see you at the next seminar.

Here’s to your growth…

Have a great day!

Cheers Katie

What’s Your Problem?
Friday, July 31st, 2009

There are many types of problems; there are worldly problem, social economic problems and day to day problems.

The key to success and moving forward is having the ability to identify the different types of problems that occur in your life.

We just need to remember that there are bad problems versus quality problems in life. Any time I have a decision to make I always ask myself ‘is this a bad problem or a quality problem?’.

For example, when we had to make the decision to turn our Aunty’s life support off this was a bad problem; and deciding where we will dine for dinner; this is a quality problem as I know there are many who aren’t fortunate enough to be in a position to dine out when and where they feel like.

If you make a habit of asking yourself this simple question, you’ll be surprised how easy your life will become. I know the major shift this made in my life – you know one of those light bulb moments!

Feel free to let me know your thoughts, feelings or changes this had made in your life.

Have a great day!

Cheers
Katie

Today, I thought I’d share with you what is on the back of my toilet door. Some of you might be thinking ‘I’m not sure I want to know’.

I’ve got a few words of wisdom on there that I read if not once but a few times a day.

<

1. You will receive a body: You may like it, you may hate it, but it’s yours to keep to the end; so look after it.

2. You will learn lessons: You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called ‘life’.

3. There are no mistakes only lessons: Life is a continual process of trial and error. The experiments that fail are as much a part of the process as the ones that work.

4. Lessons are repeated until they are learned: A lesson will be presented to you in a variety of forms until you have learnt it. When you have learnt it, you can go on to the next lesson.

5. Your learning curve is infinite: There’s no part of life that does not contain lessons. If you’re alive, then there are lessons you still have to learn.

6. The greenest grass is under your feet: When your ‘there’ becomes ‘here’ you will simply find another ‘there’ that will look better than your ‘here’.

7. Other people are merely mirrors of you: You cannot love something about another person unless it reflects something you love about yourself. Similarly, if you dislike something about another person it reflects something about who you are.

8. What you make of your life is up to you: You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

9. Your answers lie within you: The answers to life’s questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen and trust.

10. You will forget all this.

I really like it and some days one point stands out to me more than others; just depending on what is going on in my life at the time.

Feel free to copy and paste this text and print it off and put it up somewhere in your home, or email me and I will send you the text.

Have a great day!

Cheers

End of Financial Year or Christmas in July?
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

As the end of financial year approaches some of us in business are dreading the extra work load, while others whom are not in business are looking forward to those Christmas in July celebrations.

For me the end of financial year is an exciting time – it’s like a midyear New Year. It gives us a chance for reflection and to re-evaluate the direction we’re heading, both on a personal and business level.

For our business we look at the systems we currently have in place – are they still working or do then need replacement or improvement? We look at what business purchases (i.e. new machinery and / or tools) were made in the last financial year and we make a list of purchases we’ll make in the upcoming financial year. This gives us clear direction and we can refer back to this list at any time. Direction is important, especially in business. Most importantly, we look at the profits we made and how these funds were distributed. We also discuss how the profits will be distributed for the next financial year.

These few things are essential for business and I strongly urge you to add these to your list of ‘Things to Do’ at the end of the financial year.

Another important point for everyone at this time of year is of course that three (3) letter word…yep, you guessed it…T.A.X! Everyone has paid tax at some point in their lives – some more than others. There are several legal ways to minimise your tax and this website has some great publications on this very topic.

It is also important to have a good accountant – an accountant that understands you and your business. You may have heard that it is essential to be “Team Fit” which means to have a good team of people around you that are professionals in their field. Your accountant must be a key player in your team.

I’ve heard horror stories of people (including those in business) digging through shoe boxes full of receipts at the end of the financial year searching for expenses to claim. If you are one of these people then go to the stationery shop right now and buy yourself a ring binder and a hole puncher. This will save you money and most importantly TIME!

Our accountant has told us that I have saved us literally tens of thousands of dollars in tax by simply having my bookwork in impeccable order. Book keeping and up to date paperwork is the back bone of your business whether you want it to be or not.

Have a “Happy End of Financial Year” and use this time as a turning point, time for a change for the better. Remember, whatever is measured will always grow – it’s just a law of nature. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results. I look forward to hearing about any changes you make.

Have a great day!

Cheers

Changing Your Environment for Success!
Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Does your Environment Inflate you or Deflate You?

Have a look around you; are you sitting somewhere that inspires you to grow? Inspires you to be who you are? If you are reading this at work, think about your home environment.

In our house, we have many living spaces and we have set each one up in a way that we can both feel comfortable in. For example, I love to cook, so most of my time is spent in the kitchen / dining room, and Tim likes to watch; however there was no where really for him to sit. So we moved our dining table to face a different way; put two (2) of the six (6) chairs in the spare room (after all there is only two (2) of us) and bought in a really comfy lounge.

We now have a space where we can both be comfortable, the lounge gets used a lot now and we have come up with some of our best business decisions whilst sitting on this lounge together.

Now I’m not suggesting that ring the builder and organise the renovations; but with a few simple changes you too can have the environment that is designed to inspire you.

It may be as simple as a coat of paint or moving the family heirloom picture hanging on the wall to a different room. I’ll be interested to hear your environment changes, be sure to let me know.

Have a great day!

Cheers Katie

Who Is Your Neighbour?
Friday, April 24th, 2009

Do you know who your neighbours are? We are fortunate to live in Regional South Australia in a town with a population of about 8,500. I know our neighbours names and I know they have three (3) children, a girl and twin boys and a Staffy dog called Jack – who sometimes wanders into our yard and is kind enough to leave a little surprise on our front lawn. I also know that she is 29 and has cervical cancer and has just recently had an operation to have a full hysterectomy.

This is so sad and she is only a few years older than me. I don’t know her well enough to know all the details; but today I thought I’d let her know I’m only over the fence if she needs anything.

I made a batch of muffins and a banana cake and took them over to her. When she opened the door, she could not believe her eyes, she hugged me and said thank you so much. She then invited me in and as we walked in she said to her husband ‘see there are still some good people in the world’. I know I felt just as good as she did!

Don’t be afraid to let people know that you care; especially those that aren’t in your closest circle of friends / family. You’ll be surprised how this makes you feel and you will also brighten someone else’s day.

Have a great day!

Cheers Katie

Becoming Clear in the Mind!
Monday, March 23rd, 2009

We all need a space where we can feel at ease within ourselves; a space away from day to day worries, a space where our mind can be still. For some this space may simply be whilst in the car driving home from work or a special room in your home.

For me, it is on my daily run. When I’m running my mind thinks of nothing; it is still and clear.

It is like my ‘reset button’; I find it refreshing and clear. My results are far greater on the days that I run, I’m far more focused and relaxed.

Although my body sure lets me know that I’ve missed a day; it’s like a build up of negative tension that can only be released by pressing that ‘reset button’.

So my challenge to you is… find your reset button.

When is your mind the clearest? Because once you have harnessed this skill, you will find your results will be ten-fold.

Have a Great Day!!

Is Your Fire Burning?
Monday, February 16th, 2009

We all have fire inside us; your fire is that feeling that comes from deep in your belly; it comes from the core of who you are.

We all have opportunities to fuel our fire; the question is whether you are courageous enough to take those opportunities?

By have absolute faith from within and surrounding ourselves with people that contribute to our fires we are able to take risks and make calculated decisions which in turn will give us greater results.

Sometimes there are those around us that want to extinguish our fires; the important thing is to be aware of these people and either limit your contact with them or remove them from your life.

Your net worth will always only ever equal your network. Who is a part of your network?

Have a great day!

Cheers Katie

How BIG are the Bugs on your Windscreen?
Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

I know you are probably wondering where this blog is going with a title like that? Have you ever heard the expression “Start with the end in mind” or “focus on the result you want”; in times of adversity this is what we must do. I use this effective yet simple tool throughout my daily life.

For example, back in late 2005; Tim and I decided to buy a Toyota Hiace Campervan Motorhome and go traveling. We’d pack all of our belongings in to a storage shed and hit the road. Now this trip took months of planning, 10 months in fact. We set a date that we would leave on our Adventure; regardless and I made a sleeps countdown and put it on the fridge. Every morning we’d get and while having breakfast we’d cross off another sleep. We started the countdown with 151 sleeps to go, it was such a huge number it seemed like we’d never get there.

What started out as an idea; just to jump in the camper and drive off into the sunset, turned into a… we need 2 x 50cc Scooter’s to take with us, in that case we’d better build a trailer (luckily Tim is a Fitter and Turner by Trade) to carry them. Now I’m not just talking about any old trailer either; Tim is a brilliant tradesmen and is well respected in the industry for his quality of work. This trailer was an all singing all dancing; cyclone 5 rated trailer. I have put in some pictures below so you can see. We spend hours together building our trailer; after work and on weekends in the months leading up to our departure. Yet every morning we’d get up and cross off another sleep.

I often reflect on the trailer building moment in our lives, we worked every moment together on it; I’d hold the end of the measure tape, or pass Tim the right spanner; or fold the sheets to the right angle and at the end of the project I had a new found respect for the work that Tim does. It was definitely a moment that bought us closer together.

As the departure date grew closer, we had a whole house to pack into a 4m x 3m x 3m storage shed and to this day I still don’t know how we managed to fit it all in there. There was mail redirections to organise; banking; registration etc. Yet every day we crossed off another sleep.

The point I’m making by sharing this with you is that by having the sleep countdown – we were only focused on the result and that result was to jump in the camper with nothing but each other and venture into the unknown. Had we not been focused with the end in mind; we probably wouldn’t have gone because the tasks involved to get there would’ve seemed too hard.

When you get in your car to drive to your friends house or to the local shops - where is your focus? You focus on your destination and take the necessary turns and round-abouts to get there. Your focus is not on the bugs on your windscreen is it?

So this week, lets turn those windscreen wipers on, get rid of those bugs and starting achieving the result you want in your life.

Have a great day!

Cheers Katie
